Special counsel Robert Mueller is now delving deep into an interaction that took place between a Russian lawyer and Ivanka Trump surrounding a now infamous Trump Tower meeting that took place during the 2016 campaign.
Though the first daughter and White House adviser didn’t personally take part in the June 2016 meeting, she did offer a friendly greeting to the Russian attorney and a lobbyist who did attend the meeting as they exited an elevator, a source familiar with the now controversial exchange explained to The Los Angeles Times.
Mueller’s team is investigating any interactions that attorney, Natalia Veselnitskaya, and lobbyist, Rinat Akhmetshin, had with President Trump‘s family members and inner circle, the Times reported.
The famous June 2016 meeting has become a key factor in the Russia probe, with the president’s first born son Donald Trump Jr. colluding with a Russian attorney who had promised him damaging information on Hillary Clinton.
Donald Trump Jr., the president’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort were all in attendance at the high profile meeting with the Russian lawyer and lobbyist.
Donald Trump Jr. has claimed that the meeting mostly focused on American adoptions of Russian children.
In an excerpt from a new book describing the first months of the Trump presidency, former White House strategist Steve Bannon is quoted as stating that there was “zero” chance that President Trump himself was not aware of the meeting.
If Trump was aware of the meeting it would make him not only a liar, but it would prove that he had attempted to seek Russian aide during the election.
