On Monday, two Republican Senators, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, will introduce legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in a last ditch effort to gut the healthcare law. They’ve claimed that their repeal legislation is moderate, but moderate it is not.
“It would leave in place taxes on the wealthy, taking that money and giving it back to governors to come up with better health care. If you like Obamacare, you can keep it. If you want to replace it, you can” Graham said on CNN
Their bill would actually make it near impossible for many stated to continue to offer the Affordable Care Act with out requiring massive funding from a congress hostile to spending in general and the ACA.
The bill strips money already allocated to states the have expanded their Medicaid programs and offered premium subsidies to poor residents, and redistribute them to the states in the form of block grants.
By design this new bill penalizes states that offer their citizens affordable insurance options though the ACA, while rewarding those that do not.
Republicans should be ashamed for voting on this law that strips away people healthcare in the midst of natural disasters.
