Actor Matt Damon Is Reportedly Moving His Family To Australia To Get Away From Trump

According to Page Six, Actor Matt Damon is moving to Australia because he can’t stand Donald Trump.

“Matt’s telling friends and colleagues in Hollywood that he’s moving the family to Australia” because he disagrees with Trump’s policies. Damon is also telling friends “he wants to have a safe space to raise his kids,” the source added.

It’s unclear whether Damon and his family will live in Australia full-time or how long they plan on staying.

The Oscar-winning screenwriter has four children with wife Luciana Barroso: Isabella, 11, Gia, 9, and Stella, 7, as well as daughter Alexia Barroso, 18, whose biological father is Luciana’s ex-husband.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Damon recently purchased property in Byron Bay, New South Wales, right next door to his friend Chris Hemsworth, of Thor fame.

“Matt’s saying the move will not impact his work — as he will travel to wherever his projects are shooting. He’s also telling friends he wants to have a safe place to raise his kids,” a source said.

The actor spoke out against Trump in September for the president’s response to Charlottesville, Va.

“To see these young, aggrieved, white boys walking with their torches and screaming ‘Jews will not replace us!’ It was just shocking. Then the night that the President [made his] ‘many sides’ comment was absolutely abhorrent,” Damon said.

Whether that is in response to the recent school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School is not clear.
