US comedian Stephen Colbert is going to be investigated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) over a joke about Trump which featured Trump being Putin’s indecent act companion.
I love how our government can’t properly investigate Trump’s collusion with the Russians but they have time for this. Trump is definitely the one behind this as this is unusual behavior for the FCC.
This is a full on attempt by Trump to silence the media Nazi style.
FCC body chairman Ajit Pai said it received several complaints about the monologue, which some viewers branded homophobic. “We have received a number of complaints,” Mr Pai said. “We’ll follow the standard operating procedures, as we always do, and make sure we evaluate what the facts are and apply the law fairly and fully.”
CBS could be fined if it decides that Colbert’s joke was indecent. The FCC definition includes remarks that appeal to “an average person’s prurient interest” or that “depict or describe sexual conduct in a ‘patently offensive’ way; and, taken as a whole, lack serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value”. This is ridiculous as Trump himself was recorded using obscene language, when he bragged to TV host Billy Bush about trying to have sex with a married woman.
No doubt Trump had a hand in this. Colbert’s “The Late Show” airs outside the FCC’s long-established “safe harbor” time frame of 6 am to 10 pm in which the commission has the authority to police allegations of indecent and obscene material on the airwaves. This clashes with FCC chair clash with Pai’s vow to maintain a lighter regulatory environment for media overall. Something else is pressuring him into doing this; Trump.
